SM5 George House 3

The transformation of George House for Westminster Under School is complete, marking the second of three phases being delivered to support the School’s co-educational expansion and evolving teaching requirements.

We have provided Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Employer’s Agent, Clerk of Works and Quality Management services for Westminster Under School, working alongside architect 12 Architects, structural and civil engineer Whitby Wood, MEP consultant Harley Haddow and the contractor to deliver the works within the existing mixed-use George House building.

Adapting space for evolving needs

George House forms part of Westminster School’s wider estate and comprises two floors of teaching accommodation and three floors of residential accommodation for school staff.

To support the School’s co-educational expansion, one of the existing residential floors has been transformed into additional teaching accommodation for the Under School, creating two French classrooms and a new IT suite. The works have also included the retrofit of air conditioning within the existing residential spaces.

As the second of three phases at Westminster Under School, completion of George House represents another step in the considered evolution of the School’s estate, adapting existing space to meet changing educational requirements.

Delivering within a live school environment

Working within an occupied school and residential environment required careful planning around pupils, staff and existing residents. We worked collaboratively with Westminster School and the contractor to develop a delivery approach that minimised disruption, with the major works carefully programmed around the constraints of the school holidays.

Our integrated role across Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Employer’s Agent, Clerk of Works and Quality Management allowed us to coordinate programme, cost and quality throughout the phase. This joined-up approach helped manage the complexities of working within an existing building while maintaining focus on the School’s requirements and the quality of the completed teaching and residential spaces.
