Dan Orban, Senior Clerk of Works at Circle, has been recognised by The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate at the Building on Quality Awards.
The awards celebrate professionals who consistently go beyond expectations to safeguard quality, compliance and performance on site. Dan’s nomination highlights the impact of strong quality management and clerk of works expertise in delivering better construction outcomes.
The Building on Quality Awards form part of the ICWCI annual conference, a key event in the industry calendar. Held in May 2026 at the Winchester Royal Hotel, the conference brings together professionals to share knowledge, build networks and celebrate excellence in the sector. Recognition at this level reinforces the importance of the Clerk of Works role and its growing impact across the built environment.
Delivering quality through expertise and experience
The role of Clerk of Works is central to achieving high quality outcomes in construction. Through regular site presence, detailed inspections and clear communication with contractors and client teams, issues are identified early and resolved efficiently.
Dan’s recognition reflects his work across three major projects that have now reached practical completion, including One Maidenhead, Plant in Basingstoke and Wembley Link. Across each project, he has ensured that construction aligns with approved designs, specifications and industry standards, while maintaining strong relationships with contractors and project stakeholders. This approach protects quality, reduces risk and adds measurable value for clients.
Wembley Link stands out as a particularly complex scheme. Following a change in contractor during delivery, the project required careful oversight, continuity and clear communication to maintain progress and quality. Dan worked closely with the delivery team to manage these challenges, providing consistent reporting, inspections and guidance throughout. His ability to navigate these complexities was a key factor in the successful delivery of the scheme.
As part of the awards process, ICWCI judges visited all three sites with Dan, reviewing the challenges encountered and the solutions implemented across each project.
