We’re excited to announce that the contract for Trehus has been signed, and construction will begin in Q1 2025!
This innovative timber-framed office building, located at the gateway to Maidenhead’s town centre, is a game-changer in sustainable architecture. Designed by Waugh Thistleton Architects, Trehus will target a 40% reduction in embodied carbon compared to traditional concrete structures and aims for net zero carbon emissions. The project is also striving for the prestigious BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum, and Fitwel 3 Star certifications.
Following a competitive tender process managed by Circle, we are thrilled to share that Glencar has been successfully awarded the contract for this exciting development. At Circle, we are proud to be part of this landmark project, working alongside Smedvig, HUB Residential, and other experts to ensure that Trehus becomes a benchmark for sustainable office design.
Sustainable future
Trehus is built around ambitious environmental and social goals. The timber superstructure reduces embodied carbon by 40%, while the façade design maximises natural light and minimises solar gain, cutting down the need for artificial lighting and climate control. This will create an energy-efficient workspace with low running costs for its tenants.
Designed to be a flexible and future-proofed office, Trehus can adapt to various business needs, supporting changing work styles and technological advances. The building will feature modern amenities, such as a roof terrace, public spaces with rain gardens, and biodiverse planting, offering occupants an inspiring and healthy environment.
The bigger picture
Trehus is part of the One Maidenhead development, which includes 429 new homes, retail spaces, and public realm improvements. This revitalisation project will transform Maidenhead into a vibrant, mixed-use hub, with excellent connectivity to National Rail and the Elizabeth Line. Trehus will anchor the second phase of this scheme, contributing to Maidenhead’s growth as a thriving urban centre.

What’s Next?
Next, we’ll focus on finalising planning and securing permits as we prepare for construction. The timber superstructure will begin to take shape, alongside the integration of energy-efficient systems and the creation of adaptable office spaces. Public areas designed for wellbeing and biodiversity will also start to take form. Throughout the process, we’ll be working towards BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum certifications, ensuring Trehus meets the highest sustainability standards. As the first timber-framed office building in Maidenhead and the wider Thames Valley, Trehus sets a new benchmark for sustainable, future-proof office design.
At Circle, we are excited to contribute to this groundbreaking project, which redefines what an eco-friendly, adaptable office building can be. We can’t wait to see Trehus come to life and share its progress with you in the coming months—stay tuned for updates!
