Plant, the landmark Grade II listed workplace redevelopment delivered for Longstock Capital and Mactaggart Family & Partners, has been recognised with a 2026 RIBA National Award, following its earlier success at the RIBA South Awards. The national accolade celebrates one of the UK’s finest examples of heritage-led retrofit, adaptive reuse and sustainable workplace design.

We are delighted to see Plant recognised with a 2026 RIBA National Award, building on its earlier success at the RIBA South Awards and cementing its position as one of the UK’s leading examples of heritage-led commercial refurbishment.

Developed by Longstock Capital and Mactaggart Family & Partners, the project brought together Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Twelve Architects, Grant Associates, Studio Knight Stokoe, Whitby Wood, Skelly & Couch, CField Construction and Circle to carefully restore and adapt the Grade II listed building while preserving its architectural and landscape heritage.

We provided Employers agent, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Clerk of Works and Quality Management services throughout the project, delivering integrated expertise across design coordination, commercial management and quality assurance to support the successful transformation of this nationally recognised workplace.

Originally commissioned by paper merchants Wiggins Teape and designed by Arup Associates’ Group 2 between 1974 and 1976, Plant is recognised as one of the UK’s most important modern listed buildings. The refurbishment balances conservation with innovation, delivering flexible Grade A office accommodation that enhances wellbeing, improves sustainability and celebrates the building’s distinctive architectural character.

The RIBA National Awards celebrate the UK’s most outstanding architectural projects, recognising excellence in design, technical delivery and positive environmental and social impact. Plant’s success highlights the value of sensitive retrofit and demonstrates how existing commercial buildings can be adapted to meet the needs of modern occupiers while significantly reducing environmental impact.

Receiving both a 2026 RIBA South Award and now a 2026 RIBA National Award is a testament to the vision, collaboration and technical expertise of the entire project team, while reinforcing Plant as a benchmark for sustainable commercial refurbishment and heritage regeneration.
