Tom Kavanagh MRICS

What expertise and background do you bring to the table?

Having relocated to London in 2015, I have become a residential sector specialist with extensive experience in delivering large-scale, multi-phased and multi-plot schemes across a variety of housing tenures. I became a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 2016 and have seen the construction industry change significantly over the last 10 years, with new regulations and commercial challenges arising year on year.

In my previous role, I authored and contributed to thought leadership articles centred on High Risk Buildings procurement, the legislative impact on building costs and cost drivers when building at height. I understand the complexities involved in delivering inner urban area developments while striking the balance between providing commercially viable schemes and delivering high-quality design. I hope to bring my skills to Circle to help our clients achieve their goals.

Can you outline the responsibilities of your role?

I will be responsible for leading part of our Quantity Surveying team, taking ownership of client account management and ensuring that our standard of service is best in class. Day to day, my role will vary from managing the quality of service delivery and commercial oversight to winning new work. I am also passionate about mentoring and coaching, so I hope to contribute positively to colleagues’ development, helping them progress in their professional careers and achieve their ambitions. I enjoy problem solving and working as part of a wider team. My approach to work is hands-on, personable and reliable, which I find essential to building long-lasting relationships.

What excites you about joining Circle, and what are your goals for the future?

As a client-centred business with big ambitions, Circle’s attitude towards service excellence and being a client’s trusted advisor is renowned. The business is agile and moving forward with the industry. It’s an exciting time to be joining such a positive environment, and I hope to contribute towards its future success as a market-leading consultancy.

What brings you joy outside of work?

I have two true passions, which are sport and music. I’ve played sports since I was young and, having stopped playing football a couple of years ago, my new, very frustrating hobby is golf.

At the weekend, when I am not spending time with family, you can find me either watching the perpetually disappointing Tottenham Hotspur, or you will likely find me at a gig or looking for live music in a pub or bar.
