The arrival of the mass timber frame at Trehus marks a significant step forward in the delivery of this landmark office building in Maidenhead.
Working alongside HUB and Smedvig as client and development manager, Waugh Thistleton Architects, HTS (Heyne Tillett Steel) as structural and civil engineer, Max Fordham as MEP consultant, and Glencar as main contractor with HESS TIMBER delivering the engineered timber frame, the project represents a collaborative commitment to sustainable development. We are proud to be acting as Employer’s Agent, Quantity Surveyor and Clerk of Works on this project, we have been managing cost planning from pre planning stages, integrating the timber supply chain early to ensure the engineered timber design, specification and procurement strategy align with budget and programme. This proactive approach is critical in delivering both cost certainty and carbon reduction.
Delivering mass timber at scale
Trehus has been designed as a high performance timber framed office building at the gateway to Maidenhead town centre, forming part of the wider One Maidenhead development. The structure comprises over 400 cubic metres of Baubuche beams and columns and approximately 5,500 square metres of CLT spruce floor slabs. This approach is projected to achieve a 40 percent reduction in embodied carbon compared to a traditional concrete frame, supporting the project’s net zero carbon ambition and its target of BREEAM Outstanding.
The arrival of the timber frame is not only a visible milestone on site, but also the result of detailed coordination across design, engineering, procurement and supply chain partners.
